I was talking to Ozzyfrog the other say at an obscenely late hour, as we are wont to do. He mentioned that The Games Season 2 was out on DVD. This caused me to remember the episode when they can’t turn the computer on because it is voice activated, and, being me, I thought about how old the laptop looked. Then I remembered why. It is from the year 2000. “That wasn’t too long ago”, we try to convince ourselves. But, my friends, we couldn’t be more wrong. 2000 was a very long time ago – just shy of 10 years in fact. This disturbed me, and so we began listing things that have changed.

Some examples were:

  • The only Google product in existence was Google Search
    • That means no YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Earth etc.
  • Windows 2000 was about to be released – XP, Vista, and 7 would not be released for several years
  • George W. Bush had never been President
  • The iPod did not exist
  • MySpace did not exist
  • Facebook did not exist
  • Wikipedia did not exist
  • Mac OS X would not be released for another year
  • The PlayStation was still being manufactured, with the PlayStation 2 about to be released
  • The Game Boy Advance was still another year off

I was very surprised by all this, so I went to sleep.

So, what do you think of that lot? Please comment with anything you feel should have been mentioned :).

For the next three days I will be staying in Halls Gap. I’m hoping it will be fun. We’ll be walking a lot, and I won’t have any internet! Therefore I won’t be able to blog or work on the Lair. Sorry about that…
Anyway, I will see you all when I get back πŸ˜€

Hi There!

I know that I don’t usually start my posts with a greeting, but there you go.

Anyway, I am thinking about and planning a new project for the Lair, which will be very exciting. I can’t wait.

If anyone has experience with PHP, MySQL, and web design, I would love to hear from you! I know a bit, but not masses, so it would be great to work on this with someone.

For now, the project is a secret, but if you read the homepage of the Lair recently you will know what it is…

Anyway, I’m off to continue posting on the Fourm.

P.S. The Any Key has a new comic out, Click.

I was in bed the other night, when I thought to myself, “The Lair needs a new name.” This was at about 11:30pm, so I was very, very tired. I thought, “I know what a good name would be! ‘Ingots in a Sandwich’!” I then proceded to remind myself that I was very tired and that I would see how dumb the name was in the morning. At least I got that part right…
Anyway, that was my blog post for today.

The over the Melbourne Cup Day long weekend I went and saw two shows of the the Halloween Classic by Impro Melbourne, and they were… I can’t say how good they were. Friggin fantastic. Bloody brilliant. Absolutely <spaz attack>. Right. Anyway… They were so good. For those that are unfortunate to not already know, Impro Melbourne are a troupe of improvisors who put on shows which are entirely made up. That’s right, it is all made up on the spot. They act, sing, dance, and even become the props and sets in their productions. They are the kind of thing you would expect of a well rehearsed, scripted play, but it is all made up from suggestions from the audience! I would recommend their shows to anyone and everyone. There website can be viewed here.

In other news, I have recently updated the Wikiverse mainpage, and I think that it looks quite good. Check it out and see what you think! Please?

I have a few complaints to make.

One of them is the unbelievable stupidity of the show Psychic Kids. It is so dumb! They get a few kids who believe that they can see ghosts, and then reinforce this belief by ‘training’ them. This is the dumbest thing I have ever head! It is like telling a kid who, like most of us at that age, that fairies are real, and then keeping that belief going by providing ‘proof’ of their existence! UCK!

Another thing is Joe Biden’s comments on the state of world energy:

β€œWe have enough coal to meet our needs domestically for the better part of the next 100 200 years,” Biden said. β€œThat can free us from being dependent on foreign oil countries and at the same time not ruin the environment.”

Huh!?!? Is there something I’m missing here? Coal? Not ruin environment? That is soooo wrong!

He even states the other problems himself – “We have enough coal to meet our needs domestically for the better part of the next 100 200 years”. Only 100-200 years? Silly, silly, silly…

My rant is now finished.

Ooh, The Any Key now has its first comic up! Check it out!

At first I loved it. Then I put up with it. Then I hated it. Now I am trying to ditch it.

It started off fine. I spent a good hour or two scouring the internet for the best possible free host, and stumbled upon Zymic. They had heaps of storage and bandwidth, MySQL, PHP, and other language support, FTP access, massive support forums, and heaps more. Sounds great, doesn’t it? WRONG! While they had heaps of great features – all for free – about two weeks after I set up my site on their vndv server it began to experience slowdowns and crashes.

The first one was blamed on a power outage, but soon they began experiencing the dreaded… Read-Only Bug! For some reason, the hard disks of the servers kept putting themselves into a read-only state, so the FTP didn’t work and neither did any server side scripts, such as PHP, which runs almost all of my site.

Every time this happened, they had to take the server down for up to six hours to do a full disk check. This resulted in a lot of downtime, as I’m sure you can imagine. This happened more and more, until they finally decided to upgrade their servers. This was all supposed to happen over the course of three days, but it got put off for a week. Then another week. Then nothing for a month. After two months, they finally got around to it, and halfway through the transfer the company who ran the new server got sued by Microsoft for distributing scareware, resulting in the transfer being cancelled.

I have finally given up. I surrender. Or, rather, I retreat. I am setting up my own server as we speak, and I will host my site from that. Anything is better than what I have now. I hope this works…

On a lighter note, here is one of the coolest animals EVER:

It is a blobfish, or more specifically a Psychrolutes marcidus. It looks really cool, don’t you think?
